10 styles you can use to respond

It can make you feel pretty angry or down when a behaviour does not change even after you have assertively responded to an issue. I learnt the hard way that it is useful to be able to mix up your responses. If something is not working, then try a different way. The stuck CD endlessly repeating sometimes works but in lots of cases does more harm than good. I have identified 10 different styles of response which can help you choose different ways of responding to these challenges.
The 10 types of responses are:
  • Rescue
  • Bribe
  • Support
  • Reinforce
  • Encourage
  • Coach
  • Challenge
  • Reprimand
  • Consequence
  • Revenge

These can be placed on a curve to show which responses are more positive and which can lead to more negative outcomes. The extremes in response styles are generally neither helpful to the person nor to those dealing with the behaviour.

I have created a webpage with lots more detail so rather than repeat it here go to the 10 response styles webpage for more information.
